Funding boost to help prevent homelessness in Tewkesbury Borough

Posted on: 16 December 2025

Tewkesbury Borough Council has received £59,519 additional funding from the government to strengthen its work in preventing homelessness.

The extra money will be used to support people who might lose their homes by:

  • Helping those who are behind on rent in private or social housing
  • Providing financial advice and practical support to help people keep their tenancy
  • Working with partners like Bromford Flagship and Julian House and linking with the council's emerging housing strategy
  • Exploring early intervention schemes with landlords to prevent problems before they escalate.

Councillor Alex Hegenbarth, Lead Member for Community and Housing, said: "We welcome this additional funding which will help our more vulnerable households who may be at risk of losing their homes this winter.

"Our focus is on preventing homelessness before it happens and supporting people to stay in their homes.

"If anyone is worried about becoming homeless, we'd encourage them to contact us as soon as possible so we can help."

The funding will also support preparations for the Renters' Rights Act , which comes in to force on 1 May 2025 to give renters greater security, and help rough sleepers during severe weather through extra accommodation provision and tailored support.
