Families and caregivers play a critical role in supporting Iowans with disabilities, often juggling daily responsibilities while planning for long-term financial stability. This February, State Treasurer Roby Smith is highlighting IAble as a valuable tool designed to help those supporters plan ahead with confidence.
IAble offers people with disabilities and their families a tax-advantaged way to save for disability-related expenses without jeopardizing eligibility for means-tested public benefits. Funds in an IAble account can be used for qualified expenses such as housing, education, transportation, employment training and so much more.
"Families and caregivers are often the backbone of support for Iowans with disabilities," said Treasurer Smith. "IAble is a great tool that gives them a practical way to save for today's and tomorrow's expenses."
Unlike traditional savings accounts, IAble accounts are designed specifically to meet the needs of people with disabilities. Parents, grandparents and other loved ones can contribute, allowing families to work together to support both immediate needs and long-term goals.
State Treasurer Roby Smith encourages families and caregivers to learn more by visiting IAble.gov.
