Butte, Mont. - April 23, 2026 - A natural gas outage that began at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, is affecting about 670 NorthWestern Energy customers in southwest Butte, primarily in the area west of Rowe Road.
NorthWestern Energy crews are in the area turning off individual natural gas meters so the natural gas line serving these customers can be safely returned to service. NorthWestern Energy employees responding to the outage are wearing clearly logoed NorthWestern Energy gear.
Once the pipeline is safely flowing with natural gas again, crews will go door-to-door to relight pilot lights for appliances and furnaces at affected residences and businesses. If no one is home, crews will leave a door tag with information about how to contact NorthWestern Energy to have pilot lights relit.
Crews from NorthWestern Energy's other Montana divisions are assisting with restoration efforts. NorthWestern Energy is working to restore natural gas service as quickly as possible, safely.
Safety Reminder: If you smell natural gas, leave the area immediately. Do not create a spark and do not use phones, matches, light switches, or anything else that could trigger the ignition of gas. When you are at a safe distance, call 911.
NorthWestern Energy thanks customers for their patience and cooperation as crews work to safely restore service.
