Kansas City Health Department launches public Communicable Disease Dashboard

The Kansas City Health Department has launched the KCHD Communicable Disease Dashboard, a public-facing tool that gives residents, media, and community partners easier access to local communicable disease information.

Developed through a collaboration between the Health Department's Office of Population Health Science and the Division of Communicable Disease and Prevention, the dashboard promotes transparency, public data sharing, and community situational awareness. The KCHD Communicable Disease Dashboard is available on the Health Department web page.

The dashboard allows users to view reported case counts for communicable diseases and conditions in Kansas City, examine trends, and adjust time periods to better understand changes in local disease activity.

"Public health data should be accessible to the people it is meant to serve," said Dr. Alex Francisco, PhD, Chief Science Officer and manager of the Office of Population Health Science. "The KCHD Communicable Disease Dashboard was designed to make local disease trends easier to understand and easier to follow over time. By sharing reported case counts in a public, consistent format, we are helping residents see the same information we use to monitor communicable disease activity in Kansas City."

The dashboard includes diseases and conditions that are reportable to the Kansas City Health Department under local ordinance. By making these data more accessible, the dashboard gives the public a clearer view of local communicable disease trends while supporting the department's ongoing monitoring, planning, and response work.

The dashboard will be updated each Wednesday with case counts from the previous Sunday through Saturday. Case counts may change as reports are updated and investigations are completed, but the dashboard provides a more consistent way for residents and partners to monitor disease trends locally.
