This past Sunday, Sept. 7, 100 staff from 34 different city projects and departments came out to Scott Carpenter Park to enjoy a sunny day with our community. We made connections, shared information, received feedback and ate popsicles! The Police and Fire Chiefs and Judges got dunked in a dunk tank (they're actually the lucky ones who got to cool off!). Council members mingled while having impromptu conversations connecting with community members. Staff pushed around paleta popsicle carts while the sweet bell rang letting you know sugar was nearby. Kids and adults alike explored the new electric fire engine and poked their head inside the Teradyne armored rescue vehicle to give K9 Astro a pet.
There was trivia about the court system and animal regulations, voting on where public art should be seen, demonstrations on how to give CPR, button making to recognize and celebrate city volunteers, a community art project to capture priorities for climate action and so much more.
City staff and council members were thrilled to have this casual and meaningful September afternoon with our community. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Whether you made it out and found something of interest to get more involved in, or you missed us this time, stay informed from one of our many different newsletters by signing up on the city website.
We look forward to seeing you next year at What's Up Boulder 2026!
