Responsible entity

Peru - CIAA

Preliminary data based on the notification from the Peruvian authorities:

The aircraft was preparing to operate flight LPE2302 from Lima (LIM) to Piura (PIU) and was at runway-holding position V1, awaiting clearance to line up on Runway 16R for departure. Lima Tower air traffic controllers observed flames emerging from the No. 1 engine tailpipe and extending aft in the direction of the exhaust flow, aligned with the longitudinal axis of the tailpipe. The controllers alerted the flight crew, who shut down the engine, after which flames were no longer visible. The emergency response plan was activated, and two rescue and firefighting (RFF) vehicles responded to the scene. During the response, RFF personnel observed flames reappearing in external areas near the No. 1 engine tailpipe and extinguished the fire by applying water. The passengers and crew subsequently disembarked using passenger stairs.
