Tegucigalpa, Honduras, July 11, 2025.- The Government of Belize is in the process of reforming its public procurement system and building the capacity of both its public and private sectors to ensure that this mechanism operates effectively. This commitment was underscored by the success of the inaugural "Belize Procurement Week" in 2024, a collaborative initiative led by the Government of Belize, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The initiative involved events around the country to better equip Belizean companies to identify and bid for public procurement opportunities.
Belize Procurement Week returns in 2025, from June 30 to July 4, 2025, building on the strong foundation laid in 2024 and expanding its reach through a strategic partnership with the Government, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the World Bank. These multilateral development banks welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with each other and the government to support an initiative that will drive competition, transparency and efficiency in public procurement that ultimately should deliver better services and outcomes for citizens.
While the 2024 event focused primarily on energizing private sector participation, the 2025 edition is designed to deepen public sector engagement. A key feature of this year's programme involves strengthening the evaluations of bids and proposals by public sector officials.
The development of a cadre of public sector procurement professionals will support the government's efforts to implement an enhanced procurement system that is appropriate to the Belizean context, while representing and adhering to international best practice. To support this, selected public officials will benefit from online courses via the CDB's e-Learning portal, building their technical skills. This strategic move enables procurement stakeholders various industries to access curated content and refine their technical expertise in real time.
Additionally, the IDB is financing an introductory programme for certification by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, highlighting a commitment to institutional strengthening and sustainable procurement reform.
By fostering strategic alliances and incorporating international best practices, Belize Procurement Week 2025 is set to drive meaningful progress toward a more effective, transparent, and competitive procurement system in Belize.
