Big Creek Greenway Renovation Underway

Big Creek Greenway Renovation Underway

The Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation will temporarily close a portion of the Big Creek Greenway from Fowler Park north to the Bethelview Trailhead beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25, as the next phase of the Greenway renovation project begins.

This portion of the greenway's closure, anticipated to last up to two weeks, will allow for geotechnical boring, a critical step used to identify soil types, density and strength to ensure foundation stability and design safety for the installation of helical piers and Permatrac materials approved for the project. The results of the boring will determine the scope and timing of the next construction phase.

"The current Big Creek Greenway renovation project represents an important investment in the long-term safety, durability and accessibility of one of our community's most heavily used trail systems," said Parks & Recreation Director Kirk Franz. "This temporary closure allows our project team to safely gather the data needed to ensure a successful and lasting improvement for our residents."

For public safety, no trail users will be permitted on the Greenway between Fowler Park and the Bethelview Trailhead until geotechnical boring is completed in the designated areas. Parks & Recreation staff will assist the contractor with closing the impacted sections and monitoring access points throughout the duration of the work.

Trail users are encouraged to plan alternate routes during this temporary closure. Updates regarding construction and reopening timelines will be shared as project milestones are met.
