Boyle Announces $8.47 Million in Federal Funding to Strengthen Philadelphia-Area Transit Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) today announced that the Philadelphia region will receive $8,474,327 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support public transportation improvements ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"With the world coming to Philadelphia in 2026, we have a responsibility to be ready," said Congressman Boyle. "I was proud to help secure this federal funding to strengthen our transit system so it can handle the surge in ridership during the World Cup. Just as importantly, these improvements will benefit Philadelphians long after the tournament ends."

The funding, awarded through the Federal Transit Administration's World Cup Public Transportation Formula Program, will help expand transit capacity and improve operations in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas as the region prepares to host one of the world's largest sporting events. The program is designed to ensure host cities can meet increased demand for service around stadiums and throughout their transit networks.

Philadelphia is one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to welcome a significant influx of visitors. Strong, reliable public transportation will be essential to managing increased ridership, reducing congestion, and supporting local businesses and workers during the tournament.
