California State Transportation Calls for Applicants to Interagency Equity Advisory Committee

Committee helps agencies achieve meaningful outcomes in transportation equity, environmental justice and equitable economic opportunities

Sacramento - California state transportation today announced an open call for applicants to serve on the Interagency Equity Advisory Committee, which advises the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), the California Transportation Commission (CTC), and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). First convened in 2023, the 15-member Equity Advisory Committee advises each agency on how to achieve meaningful outcomes in transportation equity, environmental justice and equitable economic opportunities, especially in transportation planning and programming. Applications must be submitted via online portal by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Committee members are eligible for a $100 per diem for their service.

"The Equity Advisory Committee is an invaluable resource, helping to align our state's transportation plans and investments with the needs of all Californians, as envisioned by Governor Newsom's California for All initiative," said California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin. "Members bring lived, community-focused and professional expertise to help inform the state's transportation plans and investments. For those who have the passion and heart, I urge you to apply and join the Committee in this important work."

Members of the Equity Advisory Committee regularly review, advise and make recommendations on transportation-related plans, programs and policies to CalSTA, the CTC and Caltrans during open public meetings.

"The best transportation decisions are informed by the people and communities they serve," said California Transportation Commission Chair Clarissa Falcon. "I encourage Californians from every region and background to apply and share their perspectives as we work together to build a transportation system that is more equitable, accessible and responsive to communities across the state."

Committee members serve two-year terms. Each member must be a resident of California and clearly demonstrate a history of equity-centered personal or professional experience or community leadership, or be actively engaged in transportation equity, policy, programming, advocacy or related fields such as health, air quality, climate, housing justice, community development or socio-economic development. Priority will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience developing and implementing community-derived policies in partnership with government or similar institutions.

The Committee includes experts representing tribal and indigenous communities, community-based organizations, climate and air quality organizations, housing and housing justice organizations, statewide environmental justice and equity organizations, individuals or organizations offering an accessibility and disability perspective and community members reflecting different geographic areas of the state, especially rural areas.
