NEWS: Sens. Schiff, Padilla Announce Nearly $109 Million to Modernize California Airports

Federal funding will support runway and taxiway improvements, noise mitigation, airport safety projects and other infrastructure upgrades across California

Washington D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-Calif.) announced that airports across California will receive nearly $109 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants to modernize airport infrastructure, improve safety, and strengthen California's aviation system.

The grants for 51 airports from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program (AIP) will support projects including runway and taxiway rehabilitation, airport noise mitigation, terminal construction, safety improvements, passenger boarding bridges, lighting upgrades, and other critical airport infrastructure.

"From upgrading runways and taxiways to reducing airport noise and improving passenger facilities, these investments will make airports across California safer and more reliable. I'm proud to help deliver federal funding that will strengthen our transportation infrastructure, create economic opportunities and better serve communities across the Golden State," said Senator Schiff.

"California's airports are critical to the millions of travelers, workers, and goods that keep our economy moving. Investing in this infrastructure means safer runways, shorter delays, and airports built to handle the demands of our growing state," said Senator Padilla. California airports selected to receive funding include:

• Los Angeles International Airport - $15,298,016: This funding will support the first phase of a project to reconstruct Taxiway A, including 3,280 feet of pavement.
• San Diego International Airport - $15,000,000: This funding will install full noise mitigation measures for 400 residences affected by airport noise exposure.
• California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport - $12,827,980: This funding will support the second phase of construction to shift Taxiway A by 150 feet to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
• Santa Barbara Municipal Airport - $9,180,928: This funding will resurface, rehabilitate, and reconstruct portions of Taxiways A5, A3, E, and A2.
• Hemet-Ryan Airport - $6,150,000: This funding will support the first construction phase of a project to rehabilitate Runway 5/23.
• Apple Valley Airport - $5,936,870: This funding will rehabilitate 6,500 feet of Runway 18/36 to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and extend its useful life.
• Santa Maria Public Airport/Capt. G. Allan Hancock Field - $5,683,042: This funding will support the first phase of a project to rehabilitate the airport's taxiways, including rehabilitation of 1,400 feet of pavement.
• Paso Robles Municipal Airport - $3,895,000: This funding will support the final construction phase to rehabilitate 1,900 feet of Taxiway A.
• Rohnerville Airport - $3,694,895: This funding will support the final construction phase to rehabilitate 4,005 feet of Runway 11/29.
• Hanford Municipal Airport - $2,779,228: This funding will reconstruct pavement on the South Transient Apron and a portion of Taxiway A.
• Napa County Airport - $2,590,116: This funding will support reconstruction of the General Aviation Apron pavement.
• Sacramento International Airport - $2,371,103: This funding will acquire and install three new passenger boarding bridges.
• Monterey Regional Airport - $2,368,257: This funding will support construction of a new 66,500-square-foot terminal to accommodate passenger and baggage movement.
• Fresno Chandler Executive Airport - $1,850,695: This funding will support rehabilitation of 3,627 feet of Runway 12/30.
• Buchanan Field Airport - $1,697,667: This funding will replace an aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle that has reached the end of its useful life.
• Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport - $1,573,899: This funding will support design of a new sponsor-owned FAA contract tower and eligible equipment.
• Nut Tree Airport - $1,565,151: This funding will support reconstruction of existing taxilane pavement.
• Mojave Air & Space Port/Rutan Field - $1,558,000: This funding will support rehabilitation of Taxiway A.
• Tehachapi Municipal Airport - $1,242,000: This funding will support reconstruction of 1,200 feet of Southwest taxilane pavement.
• Jack Northrop Field/Hawthorne Municipal Airport - $1,207,161: This funding will rehabilitate lighting on Taxiways N and S.
• Gansner Field - $1,133,958: This funding will support construction of 11,550 feet of wildlife fencing to enhance airport safety.
• Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport - $969,950: This funding will support a new airport drainage study.
• Hollister Municipal Airport - $794,087: This funding will support design work to reconstruct 9,200 feet of Taxiway A pavement.
• Lampson Field - $600,000: This funding will support the second phase of a project to rehabilitate the airport's east apron pavement.
• Chico Regional Airport - $588,119: This funding will support an update to the airport's existing Airport Master Plan Study.
• Murray Field - $586,132: This funding will install a precision approach path indicator system for Runway 12.
• Lake Tahoe Airport - $535,000: This funding will reseal 8,541 feet of Runway 18/36 pavement.
• Mammoth Yosemite Airport - $396,856: This funding will support construction of a new 12,000-square-foot snow removal equipment building.
• San Diego International Airport - $375,000: This funding will support an evaluation of noise exposure at the airport and in surrounding areas.
• Cedarville Airport - $367,318: This funding will support the final construction phase to rehabilitate 4,415 feet of Runway 2/20.
• Whiteman Airport - $337,403: This funding will support design work to resurface Runway 12/30 and Taxiways A, B, C, D, and E.
• Napa County Airport - $308,750: This funding will update the airport's pavement management plan, pavement survey, and study.
• Placerville Airport - $280,649: This funding will acquire and install a new automated weather observing system.
• Auburn Municipal Airport - $260,908: This funding will support design work for the rehabilitation of 3,700 feet of Taxiway A.
• Livermore Municipal Airport - $254,600: This funding will update the airport's existing pavement management plan.
• Lincoln Regional/Karl Harder Field - $228,550: This funding will support resealing of the aircraft parking apron pavement and joints.
• Bakersfield Municipal Airport - $226,000: This funding will support acquisition and installation of a new automated weather observing system.
• Nervino Airport - $206,720: This funding will support the final construction phase to reseal Taxiway A pavement and joints.
• Porterville Municipal Airport - $197,600: This funding will support an initial pavement study and development of a new pavement management plan.
• Rogers Field - $180,880: This funding will support the final construction phase to reseal Taxiway A pavement.
• Tracy Municipal Airport - $176,581: This funding will rehabilitate pavement markings on Runways 8/26 and 12/30.
• Jack McNamara Field - $173,109: This funding will support pre-design work for the rehabilitation of 5,001 feet of Runway 12/30.
• Tulelake Municipal Airport - $165,861: This funding will support construction to reseal Runway 12/30 pavement.
• Mesa Del Rey Airport - $146,519: This funding will update the airport's existing pavement management plan.
• Westover Field Amador County Airport - $137,061: This funding will support design work to reseal Runway 01/19 pavement.
• Petaluma Municipal Airport - $132,721: This funding will support design work to reseal Runway 11/29 pavement.
• Chowchilla Airport - $123,500: This funding will update the airport's existing pavement management plan.
• Watsonville Municipal Airport - $115,058: This funding will install new Runway 2/20 markings to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
• Gustine Airport - $95,000: This funding will support design work to install new lighting on Runway 18/36 to enhance safety.
• Byron Airport - $31,825: This funding will support an airport wildlife hazard site visit.
• Auburn Municipal Airport - $27,433: This funding will support an airport wildlife hazard site visit.

Background: Senators Schiff and Padilla have consistently secured federal investments to modernize California's aviation infrastructure.

Last month, they announced $107 million in grants for 16 California airports, including Oakland, Long Beach, Fresno, and San Jose.

They have also announced that 46 California airports were awarded a combined $168.85 million in grant funding from AIG program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, as well as an additional 72 California airports receiving a combined $158.4 million in grant funding for upgrades.
