On September 2nd, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga held a reception and a photo exhibition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Over 150 guests attended the event, including Ambassador Liu Weimin, HRH Princess Salote Pilolevu Tuita, Prime Minister ʻAisake Eke, as well as representatives from all walks of life and overseas Chinese enterprises and institutions and the Chinese community in Tonga.
In his speech, Ambassador Liu pointed out that the Chinese people won the great victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression through arduous struggles. Tonga, by fighting alongside the Allied forces, also made historical contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan. Any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities is defying WWII's victorious outcome. China is willing to work with Tonga and other countries to jointly safeguard the post-World War II international order and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Prime Minister ʻAisake Eke highly evaluated the great significance of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He reaffirmed Tonga's readiness to deepen cooperation with China and jointly safeguard regional stability and global fairness and justice.
A thematic photo exhibition was held simultaneously at the reception venue. The guests watched the exhibition one after another, expressing their aspiration for long-term world peace, prosperity and progress.
