Editorial: Better Child Care Benefits Every New Yorker

In her budget proposal, Gov. Kathy Hochul has made accessible, quality child care a priority, earmarking $110 million for child care center renovations and a focus on care "deserts." She's also working toward universal child care, which could boost the economy, reduce poverty, and help retain workers. However, to truly transform the system, the state must address the low wages of child care workers and expand access for families with low incomes.
