City Encourages Residents to Recycle Smart This Earth Day

The city of Goodyear is reminding residents this Earth Day that small recycling habits can make a big difference. Even simple actions like rinsing containers or checking whether an item is recyclable can help keep contamination low and ensure materials can actually be reused.

In Goodyear, recycling is more powerful than it looks. An aluminum can in a residential recycling bin can be back on store shelves in as little as 60 days. Recycling paper saves trees and water. Even plastic bottles get a second life, often transformed into clothing, carpet and park benches. These everyday choices support a cleaner, more sustainable community.

The city's goal is to help residents understand what belongs in the recycling container and what does not. When non-recyclable items enter the recycling process, they can damage equipment, slow processing and increase costs. Recycling right protects equipment, improves efficiency and keeps more materials out of the landfill.

This Earth Day, the city is encouraging every household to take advantage of resources like the Recycle Right Wizard, an online tool where residents can type in any item and learn if it is recyclable. Small steps such as keeping plastic bags out of the bin, emptying and rinsing containers and checking items using the Recycle Right Wizard make a meaningful impact in reducing contamination.

Residents can also participate in free household hazardous waste collection events to ensure chemicals, electronics and other hazardous materials are handled safely and kept out of both trash and recycling containers.
