Sheriff's Office adopts 'Blue Envelope' Program

Sheriff Murphy has announced that the Washington County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the New York State Sheriff's Association and will be participating in "The Blue Envelope Program".

The program is designed to improve communication between law enforcement and drivers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Drivers with autism can store their license, registration, and insurance in a distinctive blue envelope, which serves as a discreet way to notify officers of their condition during traffic stops.

This program helps reduce misunderstandings, lowers anxiety, and fosters a less stressful and safer environment for everyone. Together, we can promote understanding and safety on the road.

We have the Blue Envelopes at the Law Enforcement Center if you'd like to swing by and pick one up (399 Broadway Fort Edward, NY). Let us know if you'd like one sent to you by leaving us a private message, calling 518-746-2475 or by email [email protected]
