The current term of the office of United States Magistrate Judge Angel D. Mitchell of Kansas City, Kansas, is due to expire on March 24, 2027. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new eight-year term. The duties of a magistrate judge position include the following: (1) conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from the judges of the district court; and (4) and trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants.
Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether Judge Mitchell should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the Court and may be directed to Skyler B. O'Hara, Clerk of Court, United States District Court, 259 Robert J. Dole U.S. Courthouse, 500 State Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66101 or [email protected] or individual panel members. Comments must be received by 5:00 p.m., October 31, 2026. The panel shall keep comments and deliberations strictly confidential to the maximum extent possible. Interested persons may also contact the Clerk of Court for additional information or materials.
