Emre Balikci, a lecturer in the economics department, published a guest editorial in the Idaho Statesman on June 25 titled, "Students aren't on an assembly line. They need diverse viewpoints." He writes that American universities are losing their competitiveness due to an overly standardized, one-sided approach to education. He contends that higher education must reject this industrial, "assembly-line" model and instead expose students to diverse viewpoints to foster true critical thinking.
Balikci studies global political economy and institutional economics. His research applies status analysis to understand consumer preferences in markets as varied as house appliances and real estate.
