Whitehouse Cheers Resumption of Revolution Wind Construction After Court Win Over President Donald “Stop Work” Trump

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today cheered a ruling by a Washington, D.C. federal court that blocked the Trump Administration's second attempt at stopping construction of Orsted's Revolution Wind Project. Construction can now resume on the offshore wind farm, which is nearly complete and contracted to deliver much-needed affordable electricity to Rhode Islanders this year.

"The Trump administration's bogus effort to stop offshore wind blew up again in federal court today. Stopping clean energy raises customers' costs, and the money goes to fossil fuel power plants - to Trump's big donors. The good news for Rhode Islanders working on these projects is that President Donald 'Stop Work' Trump keeps striking out as he tries to prevent cheap energy from getting onto our grid," said Whitehouse.

Wind power is one of the fastest, cheapest ways to meet rising electricity demand, but as payback to Trump's fossil fuel backers, the Trump Administration is seeking to weaponize federal bureaucracy to try and kill clean energy projects that will save Americans money and reduce the carbon pollution that is driving climate change.

President Trump's first effort to stop Revolution Wind, which was challenged by the states of Rhode Island and Connecticut as well as Orsted, was overturned in court last year.
