Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement Following the War Powers Vote

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement following her vote in favor of the bipartisan War Powers Resolution that would require President Trump to seek congressional approval for any further action in Iran.

"Americans do not want another forever war, but that is the path that President Trump is taking.

"President Trump continues to promise that his war will end 'very soon,' but it has been more than 90 days, and peace negotiations have stalled while gas prices have skyrocketed to over $5.20 in Oregon. He has no real solution to end his conflict or end the affordability crisis he created.

"The President never notified Congress about his plans to strike Iran, and he has gone over the 60-day window for congressional approval on his military actions. The situation is clear: Trump is conducting an illegal war.

"I voted in favor of the War Powers Resolution to rein in Trump's irresponsible actions. I am glad there is strong bipartisan support in the Senate to cement Congress' authority to use military force and declare war. President Trump must be stopped before more innocent lives are lost."
