Change Affects City Park West and Cheesman Park Neighborhoods
Denver - April 16, 2026 - Today, the Denver Police Department (DPD) announces modifications to the boundaries of Police Districts Two and Six. Starting Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., DPD District Two will now patrol and respond to calls for service within the footprint of North Downing Street to North York Street and from East 8th Avenue and East 23rd Avenue. This area was previously served by neighboring DPD District Six.
This adjustment allows for Denver Police officers working in DPD District Six to focus on the downtown core and for officers in DPD District Two to absorb the more urban neighborhoods adjacent to downtown, which include Cheeseman Park and Central Park West.
The DPD District Two team met with many of the impacted businesses and neighborhood groups to discuss these changes and how DPD District Two plans to best serve these community members as they join DPD's District Two.
These changes do not impact how residents in this area will reach Denver Police in an emergency, as they should continue to call or text 911 for emergencies and 720-913-2000 for non-emergencies. They will, however, be served by a new commander and community resource officers, whose information can be found on the DPD District Station page.
"These modifications are a combination of feedback from community groups and the development and population increase of Downtown Denver, which require a more structural response," said Denver Chief of Police Ron Thomas. "This will make it so that officers in District Six can focus on the core of downtown, while their counterparts in District Two focus on the outlying area. In anticipation of District Two serving more residents and area, we have allocated them with more personnel in recent months."
