Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act, which codifies $9.4 billion in cuts identified by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This includes a rescission of $8.3 billion in wasteful foreign aid spending and a $1.1 billion rescission of federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which allocates funding to the National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
"As reckless spending has contributed to over $36 trillion in debt, the passage of the Rescissions Act represents a necessary step toward restoring fiscal sanity to Washington," said Rep. Walberg. "After passing significant reductions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last month, this legislation continues to build on House Republicans' efforts to tackle the federal government's spending crisis. The Rescissions Act would prioritize the needs of the American people by targeting wasteful foreign aid initiatives within the State Department and USAID. The package also ends the abuse of taxpayer dollars by rescinding funding for NPR and PBS. These entities have abandoned their original mission of providing unbiased, educational programming and no longer represent a balanced spectrum of viewpoints. While they can continue to provide their coverage, taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize it. The Rescissions Act will eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse and restore accountability."
