Detectives Investigating Circumstances Surrounding Extremely Critical Shooting of 6-Year-Old

Youth Services detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this afternoon's shooting of a six-year-old boy inside a home in the 3100 block of Qualynn Drive. The victim has an extremely critical gunshot wound to the head.

The father told detectives he fell asleep with a pistol in his pocket after playing with the child in the living room. He said he awoke to the sound of a gunshot and saw that the victim was wounded. He yelled for a relative to call 911. The six-year-old was rushed by ambulance to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Officers recovered the gun from the living room floor.
