Deepening relations with Lithuania in context of Serbia’s EU accession

Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović, together with Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić, spoke today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys at the end of the first day of the Munich Security Conference.

In the part of the conversation dedicated to the European agenda of the Republic of Serbia, the ministers specifically discussed current security challenges in Europe, as well as the prospects for further deepening relations between Serbia and Lithuania in the context of Serbia's accession to the European Union.

Special emphasis was placed on the importance of preserving peace and stability in the Western Balkans region, as well as the need for more intensive bilateral cooperation within the framework of existing European mechanisms.

Starović emphasised that Serbia is committed to continuing the reform process and improving overall compliance with European Union standards, emphasizing that the enlargement policy is an important instrument for consolidating the stability and resilience of the European space.

The Minister of European Integration specifically pointed out the additional institutional, economic and political measures that Serbia is implementing in order to meet the criteria for membership in the Union as soon as possible.

The interlocutors noted that there is room for intensifying bilateral contacts, as well as for exchanging experiences in the process of European integration.

It was assessed that regular communication and partnership contribute to a better understanding of common challenges and create the basis for stable and predictable cooperation, which is also important for further European integration, according to a statement from the Ministry of European Integration.
