We often talk about stormwater runoff and what steps you can take to help protect Olympia's local waters. Now, however, is the time to tell us what protective steps you would like the City to take.
Each year, our stormwater teams create a Stormwater Management Program Plan (SWMP Plan). The plan lays out the actions we'll take to protect our streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands and the Salish Sea from polluted runoff. We're currently drafting our 2026 plan and we want to know which solutions best match your priorities.
For example, to help soak up and clean stormwater near where it falls, we could support neighborhoods willing to replace hard surfaces in favor of trees, native plantings or raingardens. Future efforts could also help tackle concerns such as flooding, heat island affect, wildlife habitat or neighborhood green spaces.
Understanding the preferences that reinforce your quality of life - whether its fishing, swimming, wildlife, or the health of your family, pets and community - helps us invest in options that advance the multi-layered benefits that most matter to you.
