4/28/2025 Cypress Hill to Bring Trailblazing Hip-Hop Legacy to the California State Fair

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) - Hip-hop pioneers and cultural trailblazers Cypress Hill will bring their dynamic energy to the California State Fair on Tuesday, July 22, capping off the final weekend of the Toyota Concert Series. Known for their genre-defining sound, explosive live performances, and enduring influence on music and pop culture, Cypress Hill promises an unforgettable night for fans, old and new.

Cypress Hill-comprised of B-Real, Sen Dog, and DJ Muggs-changed the face of hip-hop when they emerged from Los Angeles in 1991 with their self-titled debut album. With gritty tracks like "How I Could Just Kill a Man" and "The Phuncky Feel One," the group quickly became underground legends. Their bold pro-cannabis stance and crossover appeal earned them a dedicated following that stretched far beyond hip-hop.

Their 1993 follow-up, Black Sunday, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, earned three GRAMMY® nominations, and went triple platinum, making Cypress Hill the first rap group to have two albums in the Billboard Top 10 simultaneously. They also became the first Latino-American hip-hop group to achieve both platinum and multi-platinum success.

Over the decades, Cypress Hill has released ten studio albums, including the fan-favorite Elephants on Acid (2018) and 2022's Back in Black, which Kerrang! called a "solidification of their legacy." In 2019, the group earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2021, they marked the 30th anniversary of their debut with a SONY vinyl reissue, a box set, unreleased tracks, and even a graphic novel.

In 2022, they were the subject of the Showtime documentary Insane in the Brain, hailed by The New York Times and Variety for spotlighting their groundbreaking fusion of Latin-tinged hip-hop and rock. Then in July 2024, Cypress Hill made pop culture history with a sold-out, one-night-only performance of Black Sunday alongside the London Symphony at Royal Albert Hall-a collaboration originally joked about on The Simpsons nearly three decades earlier.

"Cypress Hill has been shaping music and culture for over three decades, and they're still pushing boundaries," said Tom Martinez, CEO of California Expo & the State Fair.
