Finley Aquatic Center Spray Ground Nearing Completion

Exciting news for the community! Construction of the new spray ground at Finley Aquatic Center is nearly complete, and staff are now being trained on the operations of the new facility in time for the Grand Splash Opening. This vibrant addition to the facility will enhance summer fun for families and swimmers of all ages and abilities.

The spray ground area includes shaded picnic spaces, an expanded pool deck, beautiful landscaping, and updated fencing, creating a more enjoyable and comfortable environment for everyone.

The new spray ground will provide a multi-generational water play experience with an assortment of 15 interactive spray features, including a central water dump, water cannons, and a variety of other automatic and manually operated spray features.

In addition, the project scope includes a new mechanical room, landscaping, and upgrades to adjacent pool deck areas, enabling access to the new facility and throughout the aquatic center swim area to be fully ADA-compliant and allow for seamless movement between the spray ground and the existing pools.

Funded in part by Measure M - Parks for All, the Finley Aquatic Center Spray Ground and Renovation Project began in November 2023 with the demolition of the existing wading pool, followed by renovations to the two existing pools and concrete deck. The project's approximate construction cost is $5.7 million.

This exciting enhancement to the City's parks and recreational facilities not only provides a fun, accessible place to cool off in the summer, it also meets City Council Goal #4, to Invest in the Development and Maintenance of the City's Infrastructure. The Spray Ground augments the already popular Finley Aquatic Center swimming and diving pools.

Project Features

• 15 interactive, recirculating spray features such as dripping palm trees, water cannons, deck sprayers, a super soaker, spraying arches, a water activity table, and a variety of other automatic and manually operated elements.
• Two new reservable picnic areas with tables and shade covers for birthday parties and community events
• New concrete pool decks to provide enhanced, ADA-compliant accessibility and to replace the existing deck area, which was aging and failing.
• New tropical-themed landscaping, including palm trees, to create an enticing tropical paradise.

To ensure a safe and smooth experience for everyone, staff training and final operational checks are currently underway. The spray ground is anticipated to officially open to the community for the summer season, coinciding with the start of recreational swimming when the weather warms.
