Prime Minister Janša promises swift government assistance after severe storm | Author KPV
In a statement to the press following his inspection of the storm damage, the Prime Minister said that the Government had also reviewed the consequences of the severe storm at its morning session. "We will help people as quickly as possible. The material damage is enormous. We have learned from the natural disasters of recent years that rapid assistance can make a significant difference. Crops have also been destroyed. We will do everything we can to speed up the procedures for obtaining assistance."
The Prime Minister further noted that visits by ministers to the affected areas had shown that the procedures for assessing damage and granting assistance are too slow. "We will do everything in our power to make the procedures as short as possible, although some naturally require time in order to ensure fair and equal treatment."
The Prime Minister also thanked everyone helping with the recovery effort. "Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the damage is extensive. I would like to thank the firefighters, neighbours and family members who immediately came to help. Komenda is not the only place that was severely affected; we are seeing similar scenes elsewhere in Slovenia, and the damage to agriculture is substantial."
