On January 2, 2026, Chinese Consul General in Willemstad Mr. Zhang Kaibin published an article titled China Firmly Opposes U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan Region on Curacao Chroicle. The full text is as follows:
Recently, the United States of America blatantly announced a $11 billion arms sale plan to China's Taiwan region. This move seriously violates the One-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiqués between China and the United States, especially the Communiqué signed on August 17, 1982.
It grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, seriously undermines China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, severely damages peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, sends a gravely wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and hinders the process of China's peaceful reunification. The Chinese side has lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side at the earliest opportunity.
China's actions are a just punishment against the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces for their attempt to "seek independence through force," and a serious warning to external interfering forces. This is entirely justified, lawful, and reasonable.
The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China. The return of Taiwan to China is an important component of the outcomes of victory in World War II and of the post-war international order. In 1971, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, which clearly "to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its Government the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations." To date, 183 countries have established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and all support the Chinese government's principled position on the Taiwan question. This fully demonstrates that the One-China principle is a basic norm governing international relations and a broad consensus among the international community.
The so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" and the "Six Assurances" to Taiwan, fabricated unilaterally by the U.S. side, have been firmly opposed by China from the very beginning. The United States has no right to place its domestic law above international law, no right to use it to evade its international obligations, and still less the right to undermine the international order and international rules.
There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing all of China. This is the true status quo across the Taiwan Strait. The repeated attempts by the Taiwan authorities to "rely on the United States for independence" and some people in the U.S. who deliberately seek to "use Taiwan to contain China" represent the greatest change to the status quo and the gravest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait.
The U.S. move to "assist separatism with military support" will only embolden the arrogance of "Taiwan independence," push the Taiwan Strait into a dangerous situation, and inevitably increase the risk of conflict and confrontation between China and the United States. It is nothing but adding fuel to the fire in the Taiwan Strait.
The Taiwan question concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and it lies at the very heart of China's core interests. On this issue, China has no room for compromise or retreat. "Taiwan independence" and peace in the Taiwan Strait are completely incompatible, and any moves to arm Taiwan will face serious consequences. No one should underestimate the firm resolve and strong capability of the Chinese government and people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. No matter how many advanced weapons are sold to Taiwan, they cannot stop the historical trend that China will eventually achieve, and is bound to achieve, reunification.
The two sides of the Taiwan Strait are bound by blood ties, and all descendants of the Chinese nation should uphold the greater cause of the nation, jointly oppose "Taiwan independence," and support the great cause of China's reunification. Those in Taiwan who attempt to pursue "Taiwan independence" will surely be held accountable by history. Those in the international community who connive or support "Taiwan independence" will end up suffering the consequences. The Taiwan question arose due to the weakness and turmoil of the Chinese nation, and it will certainly be resolved with the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
