On July 21, 2026, NASEO announced the launch of the NASEO Geothermal Heating and Cooling Working Group, a parallel effort to NASEO's Geothermal Power Accelerator. The Working Group brings together State Energy Offices and private sector experts to lower the cost of heating and cooling in buildings using geothermal low temperature technologies and coproduced resources.
The Working Group will kick off with a geothermal financing workshop alongside the NASEO Buildings Summit on July 29, 2026, to explore business models and opportunities for scaling geothermal heating and cooling technologies. Through virtual bimonthly Working Group meetings, states will learn from one another and engage industry practitioners and experts on geothermal technologies and products, programs, policies, business models, research, and innovative financing approaches that can help scale geothermal heating and cooling. The goals are to identify actionable approaches that lower heating and cooling costs, reduce stress on the electric grid, and contribute to economic growth.
