University of York performs strongly in National Student Survey 2025

York has performed strongly in this year's National Student Survey - with increases in satisfaction rates across all of the University's institutional feedback themes.

In particular, York has improved in Academic Support (89.9% satisfaction) and Learning Resources (90.4% satisfaction).

The results also showed students were pleased with how the University communicates mental health and wellbeing support, and how students felt able to express their ideas, opinions and beliefs.

The top-level themes measure student feedback on key areas. Compared to last year's results, satisfaction rates for Assessment and Feedback at York increased to 72.6% level of satisfaction (up 3.2%). How students felt about how well their course is organised and how changes to teaching are communicated rose to 77.9% (up 3.7%), and Student Voice rose to an overall satisfaction rate of 73.7% (up 3.0%).

York improved feedback scores in 24 of 27 individual questions. The results also showed some strong Departmental performances, with significant increases in the overall scores for Adult Nursing, Business of the Creative Industries, Chemistry, Interactive Media Studies, Microbiology and Cell Science and Physics with AstroPhysics.

The NSS survey asks students a range of questions related to their academic experience, with the results used by universities and colleges to improve the student experience and help to inform prospective students' choices.

Professor Tracy Lightfoot, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Students, said: "These are really pleasing results and it's great to see such significant increases in student satisfaction across key areas, particularly in Assessment and Feedback, Academic Support, and Learning Resources.

"The NSS is incredibly important as it gives us direct insight into our students' academic experiences, helping us to continually enhance what we offer and providing valuable information for prospective students.

"The results reflect our commitment to providing an outstanding and supportive learning environment for all our students."

The results build on York's Gold award for teaching, the highest possible rating a university can achieve.
