Meet Chevis Shannon, DrPH, MBA, MPH, MERC
Dr. Chevis Shannon believes that leadership begins with purpose. As ASRM's Chief Education & Science Officer, she is widely recognized for her contributions to medical education and professional development. But in addition to her professional experience, her role as a mother and as an advocate for stronger, more supportive communities is the fire that makes her so effective.
Dr. Shannon says her daughter is her greatest inspiration and a driving force behind her work. She strives to model leadership, compassion, and resilience while creating a world where her daughter (and future generations) feel valued, respected, and empowered. She actively serves on community boards focused on adoption and foster care, as well as ovarian cancer research and cures, reflecting her dedication to improving lives both within and outside the reproductive medicine field.
Professionally, Dr. Shannon brings that same passion for service into her leadership at ASRM. With more than five years at the organization, she focuses on ensuring professionals in reproductive medicine have the skills, knowledge, and practical tools needed to directly improve patient care. She views education as one of the most powerful ways to drive meaningful change for families seeking reproductive care and for the professionals who serve them.
Before joining ASRM, Dr. Shannon helped to build and direct programs in academic medicine and research. She served as a funded research faculty member and Research Co-Director at Vanderbilt University Medical School, and founder and director of the Surgical Outcomes Center for Kids at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Her work mentoring trainees and early-career professionals earned her the Vanderbilt Excellence in Teaching Award, reinforcing her lifelong dedication to education and leadership development.
Dr. Shannon is equally passionate about the culture and mission of ASRM.
"Ensuring the professionals in our field have the skills, knowledge, and know-how needed to directly improve and impact the lives of patients," she says.
Through her leadership, advocacy, and personal commitment to service, Dr. Shannon continues to help shape a stronger future for reproductive medicine, for the professionals who power the field, and for the families they serve.
