Campus delivery service expands access to library materials across UNM

A campus delivery service launched as a pilot program in fall 2023 for the UNM Department of English Language and Literature, then located in the Humanities Building, has expanded to seven departments across five campus locations, with approximately 30 patrons enrolled across the north and central campuses.

Designed to make it easier to access materials across UNM's north and central campuses, the service is intended for routine requests rather than rush orders. Delivery can take up to two business days. The service allows eligible faculty, staff and graduate students with a department mailbox to request delivery of library materials directly to their mailbox.

The service connects libraries across Lomas Boulevard. Central campus patrons can request materials from the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) and the School of Law Library for delivery to their department mailboxes. North campus patrons can request materials from central campus libraries for pickup at HSLIC or the School of Law Library.

For Ursula Moffitt, an assistant professor in Individual, Family and Community Education, the convenience makes a difference.

"It's incredibly convenient to be able to just pick up books from my mailbox in my building rather than having to go all the way across campus, particularly during the extra hot summer months. Similarly, being able to drop books off in the blue box is wonderful! I'm really grateful for this service and use it regularly!" Moffitt said.

The following seven departments currently participate in the campus delivery service:

  • Department of English Language and Literature, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Department of Philosophy, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Department of Africana Studies, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences
  • Department of Music, College of Fine Arts
  • Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership and Policy (TEELP), College of Education and Human Sciences
  • Department of Individual, Family and Community Education, College of Education and Human Sciences

The service also makes returning materials convenient. Patrons can return books using a blue postal bin labeled "University Libraries Book Returns" in the department where they picked up the materials. Library staff collect the books and return them to the appropriate library. Interlibrary loan (ILL) materials may also be returned to the service desk at any of the three Main Campus libraries.

How to sign up
To use the campus delivery service, patrons must have an active UNM Libraries account and an ILLiad account in good standing.

To get started, patrons can update their ILLiad account profile and select Campus Delivery as their preferred pickup location. Patrons can also submit a service request online.

For questions, contact the department.
