WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) and Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02) visited Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) in Lynn to speak with those involved directly in the fight against hunger. The visit was the latest stop in Congressman McGovern's EndHungerNow Massachusetts tour.
At GLSS, Moulton and McGovern participated in a cooking class and held a small group discussion with clients of the Phoenix Food Hub, focusing on hearing directly from constituents impacted by food insecurity. Following the visit, the members hosted a press conference to address how rising economic pressures and recent federal policy decisions have worsened food insecurity in the Sixth District and across the Commonwealth.
The Phoenix Food Hub is a collaborative project spearheaded by GLSS as part of the Lynn Food Policy Council. The Hub serves people of all ages, providing food distribution, screening, education and counseling, cooking classes, and other vital nutrition support.
GLSS has always met food insecurity needs relative to seniors, operating Meals on Wheels and congregate meal sites for many years.
Federal cuts to the SNAP program, following the signing of the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill into law by Donald Trump, endanger programs like GLSS and reduce critical food support for low-income seniors.
Up to $447 million in SNAP and administrative costs are potentially shifting to Massachusetts. 4,500 households are at risk of seeing a reduction in SNAP benefits.
