ABU to convene 9th Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention in Colombo

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is preparing to welcome international delegates to the 9th Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention (CADP 2025) in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 25-27 November 2025, hosted by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).

The Summit will bring together international experts, policymakers, and media professionals to explore how the power of media can drive resilience, awareness, and solutions in the face of escalating climate and disaster challenges.

A distinguished line-up of high-level speakers will represent UN agencies, regional organisations, and leading broadcasters, including the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), UNESCO, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC).

Public service media leaders and professional from NHK (Japan), KBS (Korea), ABC (Australia), SLRC (Sri Lanka), BBS (Bhutan), VTV (Vietnam), FBC (Fiji), and others will share best practices and insights. The Summit will also feature contributions from UNI Global Union - Asia & Pacific, BBC Media Action, ChildFund International, and Climate Tracker Asia, highlighting the importance of inclusive, people-centred communication in climate action and disaster prevention.
