The Bahamas Diabetes Association's Kids with Diabetes Summer Camp 2026 Welcomes PAHO/WHO Support

Nassau, The Bahamas., 20 July 2026 - The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Office for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands handed over a donation of health education, wellness, and physical activity materials to the Bahamas Diabetes Association (BDA) on 20 July 2026, in support of the Association's Kids with Diabetes (KWD) Summer Camp 2026.

The donation was presented by Dr. Anton Best, Advisor, Health Systems and Services, on behalf of Dr. Eldonna V. Boisson, PAHO/WHO Representative for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, and received by Mrs. Lyndianna Rahming, President of the Bahamas Diabetes Association, at the camp site in Nassau. Items included diabetes self-monitoring logbooks for children and adolescents, My Plate food activity kits, jump ropes, skip ball sets, and motivational stress balls. The materials are intended to support campers in learning about self-management, staying physically active, and participating in structured wellness activities during the camp.

The KWD Summer Camp provides children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes a supervised environment in which to build self-management skills, ask questions about their condition, and connect with peers facing similar daily realities. Peer connection of this kind is a recognized component of pediatric diabetes care, contributing to confidence, treatment adherence, and psychosocial well-being.

The donation forms part of PAHO/WHO's ongoing technical cooperation with The Bahamas on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, health promotion, and child and adolescent health, and responds to the growing Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) burden across the Region of the Americas. It also reflects the value PAHO places on partnership with civil society organizations that work directly with affected families and translate health education into practical support.
