TAMPA, FL. (August 30, 2026)- The Tampa Police Department arrested a man following a deadly shooting Saturday night.

On August 29th, 2026, shortly after 11:00pm, officers responded to the 7100 block of N Nebraska Ave for a report of a fight involving several people. When they arrived, they located a man in his late 30's who had been shot. He died at the scene.

The suspect Fletcher McCray (DOB 4/14/83) approached officers on scene and told them he shot the victim.

The preliminary investigation found a group of people, including McCray, were involved in a fight at another location earlier in the evening. The shooting victim was not part of that fight. The fight continued among the group once they arrived at the motel on Nebraska Ave.

McCray told investigators he shot the victim because he threatened him. Detectives reviewed surveillance video of the incident. The video showed the victim's hands up immediately before McCray shot him. Investigators found the video did not appear to be match the information McCray provided.

McCray was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree-Discharge and Felon in Possession Firearm.

This is an active investigation. Updates will be provided as available.
