August 12, 2025 Flood Peak Now Expected Earlier Wednesday MorningJuneau, Alaska - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an updated timeline for the anticipated crest of the Mendenhall River. Updated data and hydrologic modeling now show that the rate of rise is hitting thresholds 4-6 hours earlier than previously expected. Flood waters are now expected to crest between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. The flood forecast is set at 16.3 - 16.8 feet.

Residents, businesses, and travelers in the flood zone should take immediate precautions in anticipation of accelerated river rise and expected flood conditions. Officials are urging all residents and businesses in the flood inundation area to evacuate tonight.

Key Updates from the National Weather Service:

• Predicted Peak Flood Timing: Wednesday, August 13, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

• Predicted Peak Flood Level: 16.3-16.8 feet

• Flood Inundation Zone: Refer to Flood Inundation Maps at the 17 feet (with HESCO barriers turned off)

• Adhere to road closures and temporary flight restriction zones.
  • Visit 511.Alaska.gov for road closure updates.
• Stay away from rivers, bridges and the HESCO flood barriers.
• Evacuate immediately if you reside in the flood zone.

• Do not drive in flooded roadways. Turn around, don't drown.
