The Severn Valley Water Management Scheme (SVWMS) team is inviting people to attend a drop-in information day on Monday 18 August from 2pm to 7pm, at the Royal Hill pub in Edgerley.

The SVWMS is an initiative led by a partnership of the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Powys County Council and Shropshire Council which aims to enhance water management and create resilient environments across the Upper Severn catchment.

This informal drop-in event is open to anyone interested in learning more about the SVWMS' approach to combining nature-based and engineered solutions to create a holistic water management scheme.

Experts from the SVWMS technical team, partner organisations, and environmental specialists will be on hand to discuss the project's goals and progress, and to hear your views. The scheme aims to deliver sustainable flood management that protects people and the environment, supports food security, and works in partnership with farmers and landowners.

David Vasmer, Shropshire Council cabinet member with responsibility for highways and the environment, said:-

"Whether you're a local resident, landowner, farmer, or simply curious about how the scheme could benefit your community, we welcome your participation and welcome people's input based on their experiences.

"Community feedback is essential to helping the SVWMS team refine the strategy and ensuring it delivers real impact."

A spokesperson for the SVWMS added:-

"We have been inspired by the level of engagement at our previous events, including the Royal Welsh Show and Shropshire County Show this summer, and look forward to continuing the conversation in Edgerley. These sessions are vital for shaping a scheme that truly reflects the needs of the communities it serves."

This session concludes a cross-border programme of public information events hosted by the SVWMS ahead of a new round of public consultation focusing on technical proposals developed from data modelling and feedback from the events.

Come along, share your thoughts, and help shape the future of flood management in the Severn Valley.

About SVWMS: The SVWMS, is a partnership between the EA, Natural Resources Wales, Powys County Council and Shropshire Council with the intention to tackle flooding, support thriving communities and create resilient environments through sustainable and holistic water management.

People can also keep up to date with progress of the scheme and all the latest news and events by viewing the SVWMS website, which seeks feedback from those with an interest in the scheme.
