DCCC Chair Statement Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

"Today our nation celebrates the life of Dr. King whose words and actions inspired millions to take up the work of bending the arc of progress toward a more perfect union.

"We know we have much more progress to make against the injustices that persist today. Too many families are living in communities with underfunded schools and inadequate health care, face the prospect of going to bed hungry, and struggle with rising costs and lack of affordable housing. Toward the end of his life, Dr. King identified eradicating poverty as a central component of his work.

"House Democrats are fighting to make Dr. King's dream a reality. That means rejecting bigotry in all its forms and ensuring everyone is free from oppression. It also means we must make the United States a country that delivers its promise of opportunity for all Americans. Every one of us should have the dignity of a good job, fair wages, quality education, and a fair shot.

"As we remember the life and work of Dr. King today, let us also mark this day by answering his call to service. During his life, he reminded us that our society's success rested on ordinary people working to secure our liberty, freedom, and prosperity. We must all rise above the cynicism that's all too present in our current day, and come together to make America the place that we know it can be - a fair, just, and inclusive society."
