3/3/2026 UPDATE: Additional time is needed to complete the work. The repairs are anticipated to be completed and the ramp reopened in late April. Also, work is happening behind the retaining wall as well as in front. While you might not see people in the work zone, they could be making repairs behind the retaining wall.
Inbound I-55 ramp to Ashland Avenue to close Nov. 3
CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the inbound Interstate 55 (Stevenson Expressway) ramp to Ashland Avenue is scheduled to close beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Nov. 3.
The closure is necessary to accommodate retaining wall and pavement repairs. The work is estimated to be completed in February.
A detour will direct motorist to exit the expressway via Damen Avenue to Cermak Road (22nd Street) and back to Ashland Avenue.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
