The Ministry of Defence introduced Mr. Besnik Hysaj as the new Director of the Institute of Geography and Military Infrastructure (IGMI), during a meeting attended by Deputy Defence Minister Enkelejdi Joti.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Joti thanked former director Jurgen Çollaku for his contribution and leadership, acknowledging the work carried out during his tenure at the institution.
He also praised the professionalism and expertise of the institute's staff, reaffirming the Ministry of Defence's continued support for IGMI and its role in supporting the Armed Forces through specialised technical and scientific expertise.
Mr. Hysaj takes over the position following a long career at the National Civil Protection Agency, where he served in a number of senior roles.
The Institute of Geography and Military Infrastructure serves as Albania's National Cartographic Agency and operates as a research, engineering, and production institution in the fields of cartography, geodesy, and military infrastructure.
Since its establishment in 1975, the institute has provided cartographic and geodetic support to defence institutions, while also contributing to the study and design of engineering and infrastructure projects of national importance.
Today, IGJIU cooperates closely with counterpart institutions and agencies from NATO member and partner countries, maintaining a network of international partnerships through various agreements and memoranda of understanding.
