WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, applauded the new Trump administration policy that empowers Americans to work as independent contractors, making it easier to earn a living and provide for themselves and their families. This is opposed to the previous Biden regulation, which attempted to dismantle the gig economy and threaten the livelihood of over 27 million independent contractors.
"Joe Biden's anti-worker agenda threatened Americans' ability to provide for their families," said Dr. Cassidy. "President Trump shows what it looks like to really be pro-worker. This effort gives power back to workers so they can achieve the American Dream."
The vast majority of independent contractors prefer a flexible work arrangement over a traditional workplace structure. This new U.S. Department of Labor standard provides regulatory clarity to workers and businesses as to what constitutes an independent contractor. This not only strengthens workers' flexibility to choose how and when they want to work, but also helps them earn a living with certainty.
For years, Cassidy has led Senate Republicans in advancing a pro-worker agenda that makes life better for Americans and their families. He is leading historic legislation empowering independent workers to access portable workplace benefits, like health care and retirement. Cassidy also led a resolution last Congress to overturn Biden's anti-worker regulation.
