Warm Mineral Springs Park status update
Published on October 24, 2024
We know our community is passionate about Warm Mineral Springs Park! That's why North Port Parks & Recreation is providing a status update and the latest news on the park's future:
-
Back in February, the City of North Port ceased negotiations with WMS Development Group LLC on a potential public-private partnership (P3). Both parties came to a mutual decision that operations of the park should remain with the Parks & Recreation Department.
-
Last month, the City Commission unanimously approved a plan to restore and preserve the historic buildings at the park.
-
The Commission also directed staff to begin negotiations with the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast to place a conservation easement on the 60 acres of City-owned land adjacent to the Springs.
-
An easement would allow for the restoration and preservation of the property as public land and protect it from future high-intensity development.
-
The City's Parks & Recreation and Development Services teams recently hosted the first of many conservation easement discussions with the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
-
Post-discussion tasks for each involved party were assigned, and the teams are working on procuring the initial documentation. Everyone is excited and looking forward to a great partnership!
