LYNBROOK, NY - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) met with Lynbrook Police Chief Brian Paladino and joined Officer Gizzi for a ride-along to see firsthand the work our police officers do to keep Long Islanders safe. This is Rep. Gillen's latest engagement with Nassau County law enforcement to discuss ways to address public safety challenges and ensure local departments have the resources and support they need to protect their communities.
During the ride-along, Rep. Gillen was briefed on the technology the Lynbrook Police Department uses, the way officers collaborate in the field and witnessed two traffic stops.
"It was a pleasure to meet with Lynbrook Police Chief Brian Paladino, his Department and join Officer Gizzi on patrol today," said Rep. Gillen. "These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep Lynbrook and our loved ones safe. It's important to me that we continue working together to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively and return safely home to their families."
"Congressional funding has given us license plate readers, cameras, RMS, and community space. All of this has been funded, which has been great, but growing police department needs and what we provide as services needs community space in a police building," said Brian Paladino, Chief, Lynbrook Police Department. "We need to show up and deliver professional service and government funding always helps with that."
Since taking office, Rep. Gillen has been a strong advocate for law enforcement. As a member of the Law Enforcement Caucus, Gillen has cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act, Invest to Protect Act and the HERO Act, which aims to improve the detection, prevention, and treatment of mental health issues among public safety officers.
