TAMPA, FL. (MARCH 30, 2026) - - The Tampa Police Department is investigating a traffic collision that occurred late Sunday evening, claiming the life of one man and leaving a woman in critical condition.

Preliminary evidence indicates that around 9:49 pm, an adult male in his mid-60s was assisting an adult female in her early 50s by pushing her wheelchair across N. Florida Ave near E. Ohio Ave. As the pair crossed from east to west in a poorly lit section of the roadway, and outside of a designated crosswalk, they were struck by a 2005 Volvo traveling northbound.

Despite the quick arrival of first responders, the man was later pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital. The woman who was also transported to the hospital for medical care, remains listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Volvo, an adult female in her early 30s, remained at the scene and has cooperated fully with the investigation. At this stage, investigators have determined that speed was not a factor in the collision, and there were no signs of driver impairment.

While the investigation remains active at this time, no citations have been issued, and no criminal charges are currently expected. Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident.
