Pro-Life Education in Schools Approved by Board of Ed Standards
PIERRE, S.D. - Yesterday, education on prenatal growth and development was unanimously approved for implementation in schools by the Board of Education Standards (BOES). HB 1313 was signed by Governor Rhoden this past legislative session and requires education in prenatal human growth and development.
"Human life is sacred, and our students deserve to learn what human life looks like even before a baby is born. I am proud that South Dakota continues to lead as the most pro-life state in America," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "By educating our students on the dignity of human life, we will continue to protect the unborn for generations to come."
"The South Dakota Board of Education Standards unanimously recommended two videos detailing human development from conception to birth," said Steve Perkins, President of the South Dakota Board of Education Standards. "This ensures that our children will learn about the miracle of life and gain a firsthand understanding of how babies develop. I am grateful for Governor Rhoden and the Legislature for their leadership in advancing HB 1313."
HB 1313 is one of three pro-life bills that were signed by Governor Rhoden this session. HB 1257 amends the definition of an abortion and HB 1274 allows the Attorney General to prosecute the shipment of pills for purposes of an unlawful abortion. HB 1274 is under review by a federal court, and the Governor and Attorney General are zealously fighting to protect that law.
