Animal Services Staff Retrieves Trio of Dogs from Rescue Facility
As many in our community are aware, Hitchcock Road Animals Services (HRAS) has been working with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office to determine the status of animals which were transferred from our county facility to the northern California rescue organization which is now being investigated.
This Sunday, June 14th, HRAS staff traveled to the rescue organization facility and retrieved 3 dogs that had been transferred there earlier in the year. We are pleased to report that the dogs are in good condition, they were all calm and well behaved on the trip back.
At the time of pick up, staff noted no immediate health concerns and once at HRAS, all three dogs were examined by the HRAS medical team, with no concerns noted; in fact, it was documented that all 3 dogs had gained weight since their departure from the HRAS.
Welcome back to Monterey County Kat, Zorra and Skipper.
The next steps are to give these dogs time to readjust to being back at the shelter. Shelter staff and management are giving them that time while an adoption plan for each is being prepared.
Each dog was and is still considered adoptable, which is why a rescue option was sought. It is important to note that each dog will require an adopter that can manage their specific needs and breed-specific tendencies. When these dogs are ready for adoption, their photos will be on our website along with other adoptable animals.
At this time, no other information is known about other dogs previously transferred to Mirandas due to the ongoing investigation. HRAS transferred 85 dogs to Miranda's Rescue from 2020 to early 2026. HRAS continues to stay in contact with authorities in Humboldt County to supply information as needed and to receive any updates on additional animals from Monterey County which were housed at the rescue facility.
