This stance was expressed by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis during a statement to the press following his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Mr.Nasser Bourita, who is visiting Athens.
Gerapetritis stated that, in accordance with the European Union's joint position, Greece "fully supports the efforts made by the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy to conduct negotiations, based on the Moroccan proposal for autonomy, with a view to reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution."
In this context, the Greek foreign minister emphasized that his country, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, "welcomes the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797."
Through this support, Greece, a member of the UN Security Council, is fully aligned with the international momentum spearheaded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of a definitive resolution to this regional dispute, based on the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, and reinforces the consensus among the 27 member states of the European Union regarding this approach.
