Complete online survey by 11:59 pm on November 1, to help shape a preferred concept plan for turning a vacant lot into a neighborhood park.
Share feedback online about draft concepts for a potential new West Berkeley neighborhood park to help shape a preferred concept for a grant application.
With grant funding, the City could turn a 15,000-square-foot vacant lot near Allston Way and North Valley Street into a public park. The grant application seeks to also cover the cost for required cleanup of past contaminants, such as pesticides.
Draft concepts and possible features for this proposed park emerged from community feedback via public meetings, an earlier survey, and neighborhood events. This potential park would seek to complement features at the nearby Strawberry Creek Park as well as the adjacent Charlie Dorr Mini-Park.
Use this survey, which closes on November 1, to further refine these early designs into a final concept plan for a grant application:
We will use your feedback to refine the ideas into a preferred concept plan for the grant application.
See the early designs on the online survey and complete it by Sunday, November 1 at 11:59 pm. Share it with your neighbors to encourage participation.
The City is applying for funding for the project through California's Statewide Park Development Program, a competitive grant program that helps communities create new parks and recreation spaces.
At 15,000 square feet, this new park next to 1326 Allston Street would be roughly the size of two basketball courts or double the size of Charlie Dorr Mini-Park. Learn more on the capital projects page for the West Berkeley Brownfield to Neighborhood Park Conversion.
The public outreach, grant application, design management, and construction are all overseen by the Capital Division of our Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront Department. The team is leading a similar project that cleaned up contaminated land to convert into a park: Santa Fe Trackbed to Park Conversion.
After reviewing community feedback, the City will present the preferred park design at a community meeting on November 12.
To receive email updates on this potential West Berkeley park, you can enter your email at the end of the survey or contact [email protected] or [email protected].
