Council Grove - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), today presented the staff of the Council Grove Republican with a Congressional Record statement honoring the historic local newspaper for its more than 150 years of service to the community.
The Council Grove Republican, founded in 1872, serves the residents of Council Grove, a town of roughly 2,200 people, and has been recognized as the smallest American town with its own daily newspaper. For generations, the publication has kept residents informed on community news, local government, school events, and high school sports.
"Local newspapers are the heartbeat of our communities," said Senator Marshall. "For more than 150 years, the Council Grove Republican has helped neighbors stay connected and informed about the issues that matter most in their town. In an era when many small-town newspapers have disappeared, this publication remains a trusted voice thanks to the dedication of its staff and the strong support of the community."
The Council Grove Republican continues publishing editions Monday through Thursday. Senator Marshall specifically recognized the work of Jan Sciacca, Christy Jimerson, and Kay Roberts for their commitment to keeping local journalism alive in Council Grove.
Senator Marshall presented the Congressional Record statement in person today to recognize the newspaper's long-standing impact on the community and its continued commitment to informing Kansans.
